Leeuwenburgh guarantees ethically sourced wood. Our wood comes from sustainably managed forests, where trees are responsibly harvested and replanted.
We preferably choose PEFC and FSC certified wood. In our production process and business operations, we take measures to reduce our environmental impact.

Our product is created by cutting thin layers of wood from a tree trunk. This allows us to cover more surface area with less wood. Veneer places less demand on natural resources compared to solid wood.
From design to delivery, Leeuwenburgh performs significantly more sustainably than what is required by law. We implement sustainable measures at various stages of our process.

Casting prevents waste compared to spraying, as there is no overspray.
Casting
The lacquer is applied directly to the wood surface, without being sprayed. This not only requires less lacquer and thus fewer raw materials, but also less energy. Our process places significantly less demand on fans and extraction systems, though we still use them to keep the air in and around our factory clean.

Lacquer residues are not discarded but reused in the next batch.
Reuse
The lacquer we use is of high quality, and we aim to waste as little as possible. Any residue from the lacquering process of our veneer is filtered and immediately reused, reducing the need for raw materials and energy in the production of new lacquer.

Leeuwenburgh primarily uses water-based lacquer.
Water-based
Water-based lacquers contain significantly fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs), resulting in lower emissions of harmful fumes into the atmosphere. This contributes to better air quality and reduces our environmental impact. Our water-based lacquer is VOC-free and highly durable, and it is also healthier for the people who work with it.

Solvent Capture
For specific applications, solvent-based lacquers are necessary. Although regulations permit the release of solvents, Leeuwenburgh chooses to capture them using activated carbon. This carbon is then cleaned and reactivated for reuse.
Fewer Transport Miles and Packaging Materials
Since we produce and finish everything under one roof, we avoid the need for fuel and packaging materials between the factory and the spray shop.
Locally Produced
Our decision to produce in the Netherlands saves us air miles to an overseas factory. Your order is manufactured and shipped locally, crafted by Dutch professionals.
